The Chronicles of Nyanya, a cat-themed role-playing game developed by Hamstercube and published by Fat Dog Games, will be launching on Steam on November 18, 2017, according to a press release from the publisher.

A send-up of RPG tropes and gaming culture in general, The Chronicles of Nyanya tells the tale of Mur, a rather ordinary cat living in a village of cardboard boxes right up until the point that the bad guys burn everything down and kill almost everyone she cares about. Mur then proceeds to become an emo catsassin and embarks on a quest to save the world of Nyanya. The trailer highlights some of the weirdness of The Chronicles of Nyanya such as the evil army comprised of monstrous cats and (for some reason) sentient, murderous furniture:

The game will feature standard role-playing game mechanics alongside drama, humor, and more puns than a Dad Jokes convention. There will also be a number of non-linear quests based on Mur’s reputation that can be completed through numerous approaches; players can elect to brute force their way through with combat, resolve things diplomatically by talking, sneak past all of the trouble, or use their noodles and solve some puzzles. The game was co-authored by Ilona Myszkowska, a Polish comic artist and creator of the Polish-language website chatolandia.pl.

If you’d like to get your hands on The Chronicles of Nyanya, it lands on Steam on Saturday, November 18, 2017. The price has not yet been announced, but for now, you can head on over to the Steam store page for the game and add it to your wishlist.

What do you think of The Chronicles of Nyanya? Does the humor showcased in the trailer suit your taste or is it really not your thing? Do you think that a good story can carry an older-style RPG like this game? Let us know in the comments below!
