Colossal Order has released the first Cities: Skylines 2 dev update of 2024, and the developer wants to get your advice to help with a tricky subject.
Previous Word of the Week posts have detailed upcoming updates or warned against using unfinished parts of Cities: Skylines 2, but this one tackles a slightly more somber topic.
In the eighth Word of the Week post, Colossal Order head Mariina Hallikainen says she and her team have noticed "a growing tendency of toxicity" amongst the Cities: Skylines 2 community.
Hallikainen says this toxicity isn't just aimed at the developers themselves, but also other community members, resulting in "people hesitating to engage with the community".
She goes on to ask whether Cities: Skylines 2 players might "have a constructive way of telling us how we can improve the way we communicate with each other".
Potential options she outlines include adding more moderation to the community or pulling back engagement to protect devs from harassment.
Hallikainen also implores players to give feedback, but to do so constructively, and to assume that others mean well, bearing in mind that "tone can be hard to convey in writing".
As well as addressing toxicity, Hallikainen also looks ahead to what's coming next in Cities: Skylines 2.
She says the long-awaited editor should be "ready enough for the closed beta in a few weeks", so it shouldn't be too long before you get to try that feature out.
According to Hallikainen, Colossal Order is working to make Cities: Skylines 2 available for console players "as soon as possible". A new schedule for the upcoming months will be unveiled "later".
Prior to the Editor's release, however - and thus, presumably, prior to the console release as well - there will be a patch that fixes various "simulation and visual bugs", so stay tuned for more on that.
Cities: Skylines 2 is available right now for PC. It's also part of PC Game Pass, and when the console versions are released, it'll be included as part of Xbox Game Pass as well.
