Wizards of the Coast is bringing some tabletop love to classrooms. The company behind the world's most popular TTRPG has announced a D&D Adopt A Classroom partnership, with the goal of bringing the RPG to 200 classrooms across the US.

The D&D Adopt A Classroom partnership

In an official press release, Wizards of the Coast goes into detail about the D&D Adopt A Classroom partnership. As the name implies, this is an initiative between both Wizards and the charity organization Adopt A Classroom.

Founded in 1998, Adopt A Classroom is a charity organization dedicated to ensuring that every child in a classroom has the tools and materials they need to thrive in school.

The organization has raised over $65 million and has equipped more than 6.4 million students across the US.

Through this D&D Adopt A Classroom partnership, 200 selected teachers will receive a bundle of Dungeons & Dragons books and accessories as well as $100 that can be spent on school supplies.

Beginning today, teachers supporting grades from 4-12 at high-needs schools with an active Adopt A Classroom classroom page can fill out an online application to enter for a chance to win these D&D products. Those books and accessories are as follows:

  • Player Handbook
  • Dungeon Master's Guide
  • Monster Manual
  • Candlekeep Mysteries
  • D&D Essentials Kit
  • D&D Creature and Terrain Campaign Cases
  • D&D Afterschool Club Kit, including a copy of the D&D Starter Set: Dragons of Stormwreck Isle

As for why this D&D Adopt A Classroom partnership is happening, it is the many social and intellectual benefits of having a TTRPG table.

It's a hobby that teaches problem-solving skills, literacy, and math skills in a fun interesting way. In addition, it teaches strong social skills such as mediation, collaboration, empathy, and coordination. All of these are vital life skills.

“Teachers spend an average of $860 of their own money on school supplies for their students each year,” said Ann Pifer, executive director of AdoptAClassroom.org. “Teachers shouldn’t have to spend so much out-of-pocket to ensure their students have the materials they need to learn. We are grateful to have partners like Dungeons & Dragons who step up to support educators and help equip students with the tools and materials they need to thrive in school.”

In addition to this online giveaway, Wizards of the Coast has also provided a D&D Curriculum on their website to help educators utilize these tabletop resources in their school courses.
