With the latest iteration of Dungeons & Dragons a few months away, Wizards of the Coast has released new material. Not new playtest material or glimpses at cover art. They have announced the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 SRD will be available in the upcoming weeks, giving players a glimpse at some updated rules and systems.

The Dungeons & Dragons 2024 SRD Announcement

In an official post on D&D Beyond, Wizards of the Coast provided details on the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 SRD. The SRD or Systems Reference Document contains the core rules of Dungeons & Dragons in its current edition. It's the core rules foundation for all official and third-party material published.

Localization confirmed and prior editions are coming to Creative Commons? Good to know.

According to the post, this new document, titled SRD 5.2, will contain massive updates to the core rules and mechanics of the game. Furthermore, it will allow creators and third-party studios to use these revised rules for their own D&D-compatible projects.

If you prefer the original rules from 2014's Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, those rules are still in place under the SRD 5.1.

WOTC states that while this new SRD does contain rules from the upcoming 2024 Core Rulebooks, it will not hold information on new player subclasses, lore, or rebalanced monster statblocks. For that, you'll need to buy the new books.

Notably, both the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 SRD and SRD 5.1 has recently been placed under a Creative Commons 4.0 license. This license writes open-source standardized licenses that is irrevocable and cannot be changed by Wizards of the Coast. This was done due to backlash against the controversial OGL debacle.

Dungeons & Dragons 2024, formerly One D&D or D&D 5.5 Edition is the latest iteration of the world's most popular fantasy TTRPG. In addition to containing revised rules and streamlined mechanics, it will set the foundation for the next wave of official supplements and campaign modules such as the upcoming Vecna: Eve of Ruin.
