Fans of cosmic horror may be familiar with the living card game, Arkham Horror. This Lovecraftian game has received solid support by Fantasy Flight Games, providing a revised core set and updated expansions. Now, Edge Studio is working on an Arkham Horror TTRPG, providing starter sets for curious players.

The Arkham Horror TTRPG Starter Sets

According to an official press release, the Arkham Horror TTRPG starter sets will provide an immersive entry point into the hobby. Like the card game, players take on the roles of investigators, looking into mysterious activity in the city of Arkham, and using their guts, guile, and guns to uncover the truth.

Notably, this TTRPG will use a new roleplaying system called the Dynamic Pool System. It is designed to be easy to learn for new players while containing strategic depth for more seasoned players. The system primarily uses D6s, making it a more elegant alternative to the more complex competition: Call of Cthulhu.

Lastly, the Arkham Horror TTRPG starter sets will be packed with physical components, providing players with plenty. The set contains the following:

  • 1 Game Master Reference Board
  • 1 48-page Adventurer's Booklet
  • 5 Character Portfolios
  • 24 Six-sided Dice (12 black and 12 green)
  • 3 Double-sided Poster Maps
  • 16 NPC Profile Cards
  • 21 Item and Spell Cards
  • 3 Puzzle and Token Punchboards
  • Several physical handouts including evidence pieces (journal entries, letters, etc.)

The Arkham Horror TTRPG will mark the first time Edge Studio has made an original RPG system. Their past game credits include a 5e update to the dark fantasy setting Midnight: Legacy of Darkness, and a 5e conversion of Legend of the Five Rings: Adventures in Rokugan.

The Arkham Horror TTRPG starter sets will debut at GenCon 2024 and will be demoed for the first time at the Arkham Horror booth. It will sell for an MSRP of $34.99.
