An X-Play and G4TV reboot has been announced for 2021, signaling the return of what was once a TV channel dedicating to gaming, tech, and other nerdy stuff.

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the X-Play and G4TV reboot teaser and get hyped for something that could be pretty entertaining to watch.

You young'uns might not be super familiar with X-Play and G4TV, but this was one of the best and most entertaining sources of gaming and tech news in the late 90s and early 2000s. G4TV (originally ZDTV and later TechTV) hosted shows such as The Screen Savers and X-Play, the latter of which focused on showing off gameplay and reviewing games on a five-star system.

Both of these shows (and others) were beloved by the lucky few who got to see them, but the television channel was ultimately unable to survive. Most of the shows that fans loved were canceled in the mid-to-late 2000s; parent company NBCUniversal finally canceled all operations for G4 on December 31, 2014.

Nearly six years later, both brands have signaled a return for 2021. What that return might be, however, is a curious mystery.

Former Hosts Chime In on X-Play and G4TV Reboot

Former X-Play Hosts Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb both chimed in on the reboot. Apparently, neither of them were aware that it's underway, so it seems unlikely that either of these two personalities will be making a return to whatever the heck this is going to be.

Response to the teaser has largely been positive on Twitter thus far, with game developers, news sites, personalities, and even Esports teams chiming in and showing their support.

When Will We Find Out More?

Right now, we don't know much. G4TV hosted all sorts of nerdy stuff: tech shows, gaming shows, and even some classic anime like RahXephon and Serial Experiments Lain. Presumably, X-Play itself is coming back in some fashion; we haven't yet seen anything about The Screen Savers or other shows.

There's also the question of where G4TV will be broadcast. In the age of Twitch and YouTube, it'd be pretty silly to spin up a television channel and nothing for online media. It's entirely possible that this will be a new, dedicated website with its own video platform, but it could just as easily end up on Netflix or something like that, too.

For now, you can swing by the revived G4TV.com and play a quick game of Pong; if you can manage to win, you'll be prompted with an option to enter your e-mail and subscribe for updates.
