If you've ever wanted to combine XCOM with your local D&D games, it seems you now have a chance. Wildermyth has entered Early Access, providing exactly that.

The game starts with you creating a party of heroes, picking their personality and basic classes. Then you set off on an adventure, as adventurers are meant to do. Interestingly, the story is procedurally generated each time. You'll get decisions based on your characters' personalities, and those decisions will shape what happens in the game. Do you show concern when two of your characters fall for each other? Or turn it into a friendly rivalry? Both will have benefits throughout the game, giving you new options both in and out of combat.

You'll be fighting, of course. Combat looks like a fantasy version of XCOM, with characters moving along a grid, having hit percentages and only able to see where their line of sight lets them. There's a special "interfusion" system, that allows the player to use magic that interacts with the environment as well. Characters can get into a friendly competition, or try to show off to their lovers. It should offer plenty of options for fans of the genre.

While Wildermyth is currently in Early Access, the full game plans to have 6 main "villains", which will serve as campaign storylines. As the game progresses there will be more content added, mostly more classes, stories, monsters, and more.

Wildermyth is available right now on Steam Early Access. The Early Access phase is going to take between 6 to 12 months.
