The story picks up after Orochi's death, where the Three Kingdoms era of China and the Sengoku period of Japan have just hashed it out in an intense battle for survival. Players believe they have finally found peace, but that peace is short-lived. The ferocious Hydra suddenly appears and obliterates almost all of the warriors in one go, only accidentally sparing three lives. Those who survived the brutal attack are sent far back in time and told to save the allies they have lost to the Hydra.

The Steam version of Warriors Orochi 3 comes with a number of features. First, it comes with a whopping total of 145 characters, players will be able to play new and old characters from both Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors. They also added characters from Dead or Alive 5 and the Soul Calibur series to add even more choices for players to choose from.

New episodes and sub-scenarios have also been added to provide depth to the storyline. There is both a sequel story, as well as the main story "The Slaying of the Hydra". The mystery of the parallel world is also revealed within the prequel story that is available, where players will begin to understand Orochi's upbringing. The sub-scenarios that are included provide players with hypothetical battles and battles told from several different perspectives which gives even more depth to the original storyline.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition also features a "Gauntlet Mode", which allows players to create their own party of up to five people where they can band together to complete some intense battles. Alongside this new mode comes two others, "Duel Mode" and "Musou Battlefields". Duel mode is exactly what it sounds like; players will compete in 3v3 battles, mashing the versus battle feature and card battle feature together to create one thrilling game mode. Lastly, the Musou Battlefields mode gives players more freedom, as they are able to customize previously cleared stages of the game to have more control over their gameplay.

The three-person battles players may have previously played have also gotten an upgrade. The combo moves have been modified to make for more intense battles. This includes the Changing Battle Styles ultimate attack, where up to six players perform the same move all at once, creating a devastating outcome for any foe standing in their way.

More so, the game provides the players with DLC content that has been released prior to other platforms. This includes a vast amount of weapons, costumes, outfits, and more for players to really amp up their gameplay experience and customization options.
