Quick update: The original version of this article contained an error regarding the VVVVVV update's availability on other platforms. That error has been fixed. Story follows below.

The indie platformer VVVVVV has received its first major update in two years, a full fourteen years on from the game's original launch.

It's not a small update, either; it adds Steam Deck Verified status to the game, meaning that you can now enjoy some masocore fun on Steam Deck if you're lucky enough to own one.

In addition to being verified for Steam Deck, VVVVVV now supports twenty-one additional languages, including Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, as well as Catalan, Welsh, and more.

It will now that a new VVVVVV update is here.

Localization and Steam Deck verification may have been the main focus for this update, but they're not all it brings.

Per the full patch notes, the update also brings many bug fixes and gameplay improvements, including new button glyphs, changes to Steam screenshots, and much more.

Most of the changes are fairly granular; there's nothing earth-shattering here, like a massive visual overhaul or extra gameplay content.

Still, if you head into VVVVVV now, you may well notice that you have a smoother experience, and your particular bugbear may have been fixed.

If you're not familiar with VVVVVV, it's a hardcore platformer released for PC back in 2010.

The game is the brainchild of indie developer Terry Cavanagh, who would go on to create arcade-style action game Super Hexagon and roguelike deck-builder Dicey Dungeons.

Rather unusually for a platformer, VVVVVV doesn't have a jump button; instead, you can press a button to reverse the direction of gravity, allowing you to walk on ceilings.

As you can probably imagine, you'll need to use momentum in order to navigate VVVVVV's increasingly tricky platforming challenges. This definitely isn't one for the faint of heart.

If you want to check out VVVVVV's new update, you can grab the game right now for PC.

It's also available on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, as well as mobile devices, although the update isn't available on platforms outside of PC, unfortunately.
