Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception tells the tale of protagonist Haku, a young man that finds himself in a fantasy world suffering from a case of amnesia. Uzurusha warlord Gundhurua invades the nation of Yamato and despite not knowing anything about the world he finds himself in, Haku is enlisted to help. Not particularly skilled in battle, Haku does have a gift for strategy and will have to use that skill to help in the war.
The SRPG battle system combines turn based tactics with attack chain mechanics for strategic combat. Timing based charging rings keeps gameplay active as players attempt to execute dodges, blocks and critical attacks. A rewind function, elemental affinities and weaknesses as well as unique character skills add another layer of tactics for players to sink their teeth into.
The game features nice art and cut scenes to enjoy during the visual novel portions. There’s also a full soundtrack that was recorded and remastered at the iconic Abbey Road Studios and EastWest Studios to listen along to as you play. Artistry and strategy combine for an intriguing gameplay experience.

The limited launch edition comes with a 50 page compendium art book. The softcover book will include concept art, developer notes and information about the fantastical world and it’s characters.
