Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is an absolutely charming PC-98 style visual level, and for now, it's coming only on PC. Yet, its developers have wider ambitions.
TechRaptor spoke to creative director and main writer Jonathan Durham at Tokyo Game Show, and he explained that the team "would love to get it on Switch and PlayStation."
At the moment the focus is on PC as the developers want to get into people's hands, but then when they have a good game that everyone can play. After that, they'd like to work towards ports for Nintendo and Sony's consoles.
If you're unfamiliar with Stories from Sol: The Gun Dog, it's a sci-fi visual novel inspired by the style of old-school masterpieces and sporting an absolutely gorgeous rendition of the pixel art you could find on the old but beloved PC-98.
It's developed by the small but talented team at Space Colony Studios and published by Astrolabe Games.
During the interview, we also learned that Stories from Sol: The Gun Dog is only the first game of what the developers would like to be a franchise with each game focusing on different themes of old-school anime and video games, but set in the same universe.
The game already has a sizable playable demo available on Steam and during the time I was at its booth at Tokyo Game Show, I saw plenty of Japanese gamers impressed by its visuals.
For this kind of game, that's certainly flattering, and its developers definitely appeared to be rightfully very pleased by the reaction.
