Today Square Enix released a new trailer of the upcoming remake Star Ocean: The Second Story R, featuring the anime opening cutscene.
The video showcases some key moments of the story and the colorful cast of characters of the game, drawn in anime style by Yostar Pictures and Albacrow.
You can watch it below and enjoy the beautiful animation.
If you're unfamiliar with Star Ocean: The Second Story R, it's a remake of Tri-Ace's Star Ocean: The Second Story, the second game of the Star Ocean series, originally released for the first PlayStation in 1998.
The remake is developed by Gemdrops and was announced during a recent Nintendo Direct. It features two protagonists, Claude or Rena, bringing different perspectives to the game, alongside multiple endings.
The remake comes with lovely 2.5 graphics, and Japanese and English voice-overs, on top of the optional track from Star Ocean Second Evolution for PSP.
Star Ocean: The Second Story R will be released for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 2, 2023.
This is certainly not the first remake Square Enix has launched for the series in recent years. We got First Departure R in 2019, bringing back the first game. The latest mainline game is Star Ocean: The Divine Force, released last year.
At the moment, we haven't heard anything about more new games for the series, but hopefully, it won't be too long before we get word from Square Enix.
