Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World is reportedly moving its offices and employees to Czechia (a.k.a. the Czech Republic) as a result of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

After years of waiting, Stalker 2 was finally looking like it would actually come out sometime soon. Unfortunately, the game was delayed to December earlier this year. Then, the Russia-Ukraine War broke out and the developers announced that they were halting work on the game altogether for the time being.

Understandably, not much has been said by the developers since that announcement in early March 2022. Now, it looks like the company may be moving operations to another country altogether as a result of the ongoing war in its home country of Ukraine.

What We Know About the Stalker 2 Developer Relocation

As Czech gaming news site Vortex reports (via Reddit), several sources have indicated that some or all of Stalker 2 developer GSC Game World is moving to Czechia / The Czech Republic. In addition, Czech journalist Pavel Dobrovsky has echoed these reports in a Twitter thread.

It appears somewhat unclear what exactly is happening here. From what I can tell, sources speaking to Vortex and Dobrovsky first said that some of the company's employees were making the move. Both Vortex and Dobrovsky later added that it appears the entire company is making the move.

Adding to this, a machine translation of the Vortex article indicates that the developers aren't just moving according to these reports -- the company is moving, too. Naturally, that comes with a metric ton of logistical hurdles such as work visas, business licenses, securing offices, and more. If GSC Game World is indeed moving to Czechia, there's one notable benefit: it's been a member of NATO since 1999. That means it would be less likely to face any invasions from a foreign military. (And if it does, we're going to have much bigger things to worry about.)

Unfortunately, it's difficult to find concrete details in English-language sources, so please take this news with a grain of salt for now. We've reached out to GSC Game World for confirmation and we'll update this article when we receive a reply.
