Square Enix Cruelly Brings Back Xenogears as Final Fantasy Brave Exvius Crossover

Xenogears is back, but not in the way most would want. It's actually just another collaboration with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Give us a remake or remaster, Square Enix, you cowards!

Square Enix is pulling Xenogears out from its dusty drawer of underutilized IPs, but I'm sure most won't be surprised that there is a catch. It's not a much-requested remake or remaster of the beloved PlayStation JRPG, but another crossover event in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius

Starting on November 20, the aging but still popular will receive two units, Bart King of the Desert and Maria Steel Wings of Bonds. On top of that, Grahf will get his Neo Vision+.

For now, this has been announced only for the Japanese servers, with the Global version likely getting the event at a later time.

This isn't even the first time that the mobile game is getting to host the cast of Xenogears in collaboration events, as it has already hammered twice.

Of course, this means that this is the fifth time (three times for the Japanese collaborations and twice for the global version) I have seen the Xenogears logo on my YouTube timeline when I wake up in the morning, and the fifth time I have gotten all excited for nothing. I hate this...

I suppose it's nice to know that Square Enix has not forgotten the game, but considering how long the fans have been asking for it to make a proper comeback on modern platforms, this may strike as more than a little cruel.

Below you can watch the trailer of the event showing the units in action.

If you're unfamiliar with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, it's one of Square Enix's longest-running mobile games, available for iOS and Android since 2015 in Japan and 2016 globally. It also features many collaborations, and Xenogears isn't the only IP it features that fans would like to see making a real comeback.

If you don't know Xenogears, it's a 1998 PlayStation JRPG directed by Tetsuya Takahashi before his departure for Namco where he founded Monolithsoft, which ultimately landed at Nintendo, developing the spiritual successor series Xenosaga and Xenoblade respectively.

It's one of the most beloved JRPGs created by Square at the end of the 20th century, and fans have been asking for a remake or remaster basically forever. Unfortunately, this has never materialized. All we got is collaborations, some merchandise, and a PSN re-release.
