A lot of interesting news came out of the Game Developer's Conference in San Fransisco this year and one of the most exciting is that Sony's foray into the world of virtual reality consoles, still mysteriously titled Project Morpheus, will be released as early as 2016. While we still don't have a name for the piece of technology which will use the PS4's hardware or a price point, there has been a lot of new details revealed since the headset last poked it's head out last year. Firstly, it has been unveiled with a cool new look:
As well as looking a lot sleeker in this writer's humble opinion, Sony has announced a lot of new technical upgrades from last years unveiling. Firstly the OLED screen is now 5.7" wide meaning that the field of vision has been upped from 90 degrees to 100 but still loses out slightly to the Occulus Rift at 110 degrees. Increasing the screen size will mean that consumers can now enjoy a more immersive experience.
The headset also has increased resolution to 1920 x RGB x 1080 which basically means that the "screen-door effect" has been improved so players are likely to be less distracted by visual lines on the screen. Project Morpheus also supports an impressive 120fps output which should help games play extremely smoothly.
They have also added 3 new LED sensors to help with tracking issues meaning that the new model should hopefully create fewer playing issues such has headaches and eye strain. Following in the Occulus Rift's footsteps the new design is much lighter and easier for the player to wear. It also features 3D audio and includes a new feature called "social screen" which allows other players to join in your game on the TV.
