A dispute between Remedy and Rockstar regarding the former's logo was resolved in late 2023 and is no longer ongoing, according to a Remedy representative.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Rockstar's parent company Take-Two had filed a trademark dispute against Remedy's "R" logo, presumably over similarities to Rockstar's own branding.
However, journalist Stephen Totilo took to X earlier today to share a Remedy representative's statement regarding the dispute, and it sounds like it's no longer ongoing.
According to the Remedy representative, the trademark dispute "was resolved entirely and amicably late last year".
The trademark filing was "simply an initial formality", according to the rep, and the two companies "continue to work together in partnership" with no ongoing dispute regarding their logos.
The rep also says "there is nothing to see here", so it looks like the logo dispute was nothing more than a storm in a teacup.
Given how litigation-happy Take-Two can sometimes appear, an uglier and more prominent dispute between the two companies seemed a strong possibility, but it looks like Remedy has nipped that speculation in the bud.
Animosity between the two companies would likely have created an awkward situation, given that Remedy is currently working on remakes of the first two Max Payne games, the IP for which is still owned by Rockstar.
That project is in the "production readiness stage", according to the developer, so we'll hopefully get more information about the two remakes in the coming months.
Rockstar, meanwhile, is currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6, the first major installment in the Grand Theft Auto series since 2013.
The game was announced back in December, with the announcement trailer becoming one of the most popular of its kind on YouTube pretty much instantly.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently slated to arrive in 2025, while Remedy's Max Payne remakes don't have a release window yet. Watch this space for more info on everything the two studios are up to.
