In 2001 a horror game called White Day: A Labyrinth Named School came out in South Korea. While it never left the country (in part due to a cancelled localization in 2004), the game was hugely popular there and gained a cult following in the States along with a hard working fan translation project. Now it seems that we can get a proper chance to try the game out, as it has been remade and released in the west for the first time.

Developed by ROI Games, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is billed as a "romantic horror adventure." In the game you need to survive a high school that appears to be possessed by many supernatural elements. The main character, a high school student named Hui-min, has no way to defend himself and instead he must hide and run to survive. The game promises an engaging story with seven different endings, and a game that is about the same length of console games.

A trailer for the game shows off quite a bit of interesting stuff, including some rather horrific monsters. One strange creature uses its limbs to hang from walls, while a creepy janitor-looking person stalks the halls with his flashlight, eventually growing to an absurd size. One thing both the trailer and the release lack, however, is exactly how you play the game. It seems likely we'll be figuring that out in the coming days though.

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is available right now on iOS and Android devices for $3.99, 50% off of its planned retail price. The game does have in-app transactions but we confirmed with the developers that it is merely for cosmetics effecting what the player character wears. A PlayStation 4 version that is compatible with PlayStation VR and a PC version are currently in the works.

Do you think that this is a worthy remake? Should it have come out on consoles and PC as well, or is the mobile platforms a good fit? Would you want remakes of any other games that haven't made it to the States? Let us know what you think in the comments!
