When a game has been around for near 13 years now receiving continual updates, you have to get creative in keeping people interested. Blizzard did a great job of that with the new World of Warcraft expansion Legion, and now with their increased effort towards eSports across all of their games, Blizzard has announced the Mythic Dungeon Invitational, a tournament to find the best of the best at running Mythic Dungeons.
One of the mainstays of World of Warcraft is its dungeons. Five players team up to take out some bosses together in a group. The formula has remained relatively the same with just some different difficulty levels added for each dungeon. Legion added Mythic Keystones to the mix, which are items that can greatly increase the difficulty of a dungeon as well as adding some modifers, like "Enrage," which causes non-boss enemies to deal 100% more damage when they hit 30% health. There are a lot of other modifiers out there, and depending on which one you have, any particular dungeon can get pretty tricky.
The Mythic Dungeon Invitation is using that Mythic Keystone system, known as Mythic+, to test some of the best dungeon teams in the world. 32 teams will compete, 8 from the Americas, 8 from Europe, 8 from China, and 8 from Asia-Pacific, all of course competing for the top spot and a portion of the $100,000 prize pool.
To enter, teams have between July 26 – August 9 to get the best scores in dungeons as they possibly can. Once that time is over, and only after August 9 as no entries will be accepted that are submitted beforehand, teams need to enter their scores and information on this form here. Blizzard will evaluate the teams based on their five best dungeon runs. Only dungeons completed during these dates will be considered.
Once the information is in, the Mythic Keystone Dungeon Invitational will begin in September. Each region, over the course of a day, will compete in a series of elimination rounds until only two teams are left to represent their region in the final eight on the global stage.
The Mythic Keystone level and affixes (modifiers) will be determined by Blizzard beforehand, and the first match of each series will be pre-determined by Blizzard.
When the time comes, the matches will be broadcast on the Warcraft Twitch channel here.
