Sony announced yesterday the titles coming to PlayStation Plus in the new year, January 6th, 2015. Although the PlayStation 4 offerings for January were already known for quite some time, here's a look at the complete lineup:

PlatStation 4-

  • inFAMOUS: First Light
  • The Swapper
PlayStation 3-
  • Prototype 2
  • DuckTales Remastered
PlayStation Vita-
  • Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition
  • Whoa Dave!
inFAMOUS: First Light had been announced all the way back at the end of November, 2014, as being one of January's titles made freely available to PlayStation Plus members. Originally released last August as stand-alone DLC that revealed more about the background of one Second Son's more intriguing Conduits, players assume the role of Fetch as she escapes Conduit prison, known as Curdon Cay. The title includes an arena challenges mode, allowing you to defeat hordes of enemies to earn skill points and upgrade your powers.

The Swapper is a puzzle-platformer, also available to PS3 and Vita owners. Stranded on a derelict space station, players will utilize the ability to make clones of themselves and even "swap" consciousness between the clones and you make your way through Metriod-vania-style levels looking for a means of escape. Although the game was released in 2013 on PC, it saw its first appearance on Sony consoles in early August, 2014 and its PlayStation Plus debut comes just one day shy of five months of availability on PSN.

Prototype 2 is an open-world action game from developer, Radical Entertainment, that originally saw its release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. The game adds new powers over the first title in the series, most notably, tendrils, that will aid you as you shape-shift across the city of New York, wrecking chaos to achieve your ultimate goal of killing Alex Mercer. Prototype 2 stands out in January's lineup as being the only triple-A game featured.

DuckTales Remastered has a history stretching all the way back to the late 80s NES game from Capcom. The visuals have been completely remastered, featuring hand-drawn 2D characters on 3D modeled backgrounds. Other additions include new audio, including voice actors from the original cartoon cast reprising their roles, as well as a few gameplay tweaks of modernize the experience. Don't worry, though, the game still plays as any other NES-era Capcom game, which means a stiff challenge.

Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition includes the original 1996 version of the game, the Atomic Edition, as well as three expansions, and is also available to PlayStation Plus members on the PlayStation 3 console. January 6th will mark the debut of this game on both aforementioned platforms. The expansions will presumably include Duke it Out in D.C., Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach, and Duke Nuclear Winter.

Finally, rounding out the list is Whoa Dave! for the PlayStation Vita. Whoa Dave! is the latest effort from Gaijin Games, the developer also responsible for the BIT.TRIP series. The game pays homage to arcade game, Mario Bros., allowing players to use items to defeat enemies, turning them into pennies that you collect in an attempt to achieve a high score. PlayStation 4 owners also have something to look forward to, as a version of the game will be released on that console at a later date. If you don't own a Vita, be sure to add this title to your queue on the PlayStation Store website so you'll have free access to the PS4 version when it releases!
