Platinum's Scalebound Delayed to 2017

In their 10th year of existence, Platinum Games has revealed that their Xbox one exclusive action-RPG Scalebound has been delayed until 2017.

According to a newly released blog postScalebound is taking longer than originally anticipated, and given its large intended scale with up to 4 player multiplayer, exploration and action packed battles they will need additional time to deliver on their ambitious vision. One could almost say, that the game's scale is not bound to the original goals as its grown in scale with time.

Part of the reason for the delay may be that Platinum Games is already really busy in 2016, with Star Fox Adventures, and NeiR: Automata scheduled to come out, as well as the work proceeding on the rumored Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles game that may be in the work. Platinum

Scalebound, for those who aren't familiar with the title is a game where you explore and fight alongside a dragon companion named Thuban. Developed by Hideki Kamiya in conjunction with Platinum you explore a world that you have been transported to and attempt to save both your world, as well as the one you are now on. It was announced at E3 in 2014 and was their first announced title for the Xbox One.

Quick Take

Platinum Games is quite busy with a ton of titles in the works right now so it's not surprising that something had to give. Given that Scalebound is a new IP and is trying out some new ideas, it makes a lot of sense it would be one to be delayed. Theoretically that might mean that in 2016 we see Star Fox Adventures and NieR: Automata from Platinum while 2017 has the rumored TMNT game and Scalebound from them. Assuming they don't pick up any more titles with their current massive popularity. Or that Bayonetta 3 isn't in development.

What are your thoughts on Scalebound's delay? Are you interested in this title? Are you disappointed with the delay, or happy that it came so early in the year so that you knew what to expect? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
