Yesterday, Atlus and Vanillaware released a video (in Japanese) detailing some more content that is coming to the PS3/Vita/PS4 remake of PS2 classic Odin Sphere. Among the information shown was a variety of new post-game options, including a "New Game+" option where enemies are much harder, "Hell" mode (where your character's HP will never rise above the default amount), and a Boss Rush mode (complete with no opportunities to heal!). This all comes in addition to the previously announced enhancements for the title from the original PS2 release - including upgraded visuals, a revamped combat/gameplay system, and a purist's "classic" mode.
Additionally, the two companies announced a special demo for the title. This demo includes some examples of the new gameplay present in this remake, while not drawing into the game's story. This demo is now currently available on the Japanese PSN for all three of the game's platforms (PS3, PS4, and Vita). No word has been revealed regarding a western release of the demo, but considering it's possible to login to the Japanese PSN fairly easily on western systems, that shouldn't stop anyone that's interested in the title from trying it out!
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir is currently scheduled for a January 14th release in Japan, and Spring 2016 for North America. Western pre-orders for the title come with a 64 page softcover art book, and Atlus USA detailed a PS4 exclusive Limited Edition last year.
The more that I see of Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, the more I'm impressed regarding the sheer breadth of the changes that are being implemented in this remake! The new combat and the HD art alone would be enough to make me revisit the game on my own - everything else just feels like a bonus. I'm really eager to check out the demo for myself later this weekend!
