Obsidian revealed today more about their next major project, the RPG Avowed. Previously only teased, the game is shown to be a first-person perspective RPG with a style similar in many ways to Bethesda's Elder Scroll series.

The trailer was light on specifics, though it did show dual wielding, spellcasting, weapons, and a bit more in just over two minutes of footage, including gameplay. We also saw pistols, and a tease of the plot being about a plague that is corrupting souls of beings including a bear we see. Kai, the first companion we meet in the game is the narrator of the trailer. He is a Coastal Aumaua who resides in the Living Lands that is where Avowed takes place. Kai is a former soldier with experience on the frontier with a mix of pragmatism and idealism.

The Living Lands are a wild island set, in a separate part of Eora then has been explored in the two Pillars of Eternity games. The area has port towns, and rolling hills as well as a variety of unique and odd fauna and creatures. The first-person gameplay, island, and odd ecosystem call to mind The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, as while Avowed, in general, seems to be taking some cues from Bethesda, none of the Elder Scrolls got so delightfully weird as the third entry.

Avowed will release in 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will be available Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass.
