Last week EGM announced that a brand new Friday the 13th game was in the works and projected for October 2015. This release marks the first proper outing of the franchise in video game format since 1989. The original game being considered one of the worst NES games of all time by critics may have killed Jason's solo viability in games for over 25 years but the currently unannounced developer is looking to change all of that.

Tentatively titled Friday the 13th: The Video Game, the game is being described as a "multiplayer predator/prey horror experience." Essentially one player will take on the role of Jason and their job will be to hunt everyone else, similar to the upcoming Evolve from Turtle Rock Studios.

With a franchise that has been ongoing for decades and has received a reboot, fans would no doubt like to know what lore is going to be utilized. The creator of the original film, Sean S. Cunningham, is on board the project and spoke about their plans for the game:

With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.
While he didn't specify whether the game will be based on the new television series directly, it does appear that the roots of the series are going to be explored in detail. Cunningham also hinted that an experienced game studio is developing the game but they are to be announced in the upcoming weeks so watch out for that news!
