If you're a strategy fan, you've definitely got something to get excited about in 2015; 2K Games and Firaxis have announced their next project (And yes, it will of course have the Sid Meier tag on it! It's a Firaxis game, after all!). Sid Meier's Starships is an strategy game set in space. You'll be controlling a fleet of Starships and while you make your way across the galaxy, you'll be completing various kinds of missions while attempting to create a planetary federation.

The press release also had some quotes from the man himself, Sid Meier, about his upcoming project:

"When designing Starships, I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the next chapter in the story of Civilization: Beyond Earth,""What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth?"

"My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration."

The missions you'll be doing will also have their own unique maps, featuring "dynamically generated tactical combat" and that 2K teased the possibility Civilization: Beyond Earth and Starships will feature some kind of cross-game connectivity for those that own both games.

Set for release this upcoming spring, in 2015, Sid Meier's Starships is coming sooner rather than later and will be releasing on PC, Mac and Apple's Ipad. This piece of information could be somewhat worrying to longtime fans of Firaxis and their deeper strategy titles such as Civilization, Alpha Centauri and their recent revival of the XCOM franchise.

Releasing Starships this soon, and with a release on iOS (There has been no mention of a release on Android) could be a sign that Sid Meier's Starships won't be as deep an experience as the titles that Firaxis has become known for. However, this is purely speculative and it shall be very interesting to hear more about Firaxis' new project as we get close to spring.
