Today Konami announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April 2023 and December 2023.

Revenue was 253,096 million yen ( up 11.6% year-on-year), while operating profit was 59,608 million yen (up 58.9% year-on-year). This is a record for both figures in Q3 and for the nine months.

The digital entertainment business, which includes games and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, revenue was 173,369 million (up 10.8% year-on-year) and business profit was 55,902 million yen (up 49.4% year-on-year).

Among the factors contributing to the strong performance of the gaming business are the launch of a year-on-year increase of Momotaro Dentetsu World -Chikyu wa Kibou de Mawatteru!, which sold over a million copies on Nintendo Switch in Japan, and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 (of which you can purchase a physical copy on Amazon if you so wish).

eFootball 2024 and Professional Baseball Spirits enjoyed a "sustained strong performance"

Interestingly, the company also announced a sizable increase in its forecast for the full fiscal year. The prediction for revenue has grown from 328,000 million yen to 343,000 million yen (up 4.6%), while the prediction for operating profit has been boosted from 60,000 million yen to 72,000 million yen (up 20%).

This was motivated "mainly due to earnings from core titles in the Digital Entertainment business exceeding their plan." Basically, Konami's core games have been doing better than the company expected.

While there's a common misconception alleging that Pachinkos and Pachislots as the source of Konami's continued positive results, the Digital Entertainment business represents 68.5% of Konami's revenue.

The Amusement business, which includes Pachinko and Pachislots, represents 6.5% of Konami's revenue. The gaming & Systems business, which produces casino machines, represents 11.7% of the total revenue.
