Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and despite Intellivision CEO Tommy Tallarico sharing a personal story about how the 10/10/2020 release date had been chosen to honor his dead sister, the Intellivision Amico isn't going to be able to meet its October 10th release date target, meaning that the Intellivision Amico will be delayed.
"You know, three years ago, when we embarked on this journey, I picked the date 10/10/2020 for the launch," Intellivision CEO Tommy Tallarico began. "Yeah, it's a cool number, but the real reason was more important and personal to me. I had a younger sister Karen, and she was born on 10/10. Unfortunately, she passed away, and I made a promise to my mom, and my family, my dad, my brother, that I was gonna put out Amico in honor of Karen and 10/10. Unfortunately, you know, things are happening that is making that very difficult to accomplish. The bottom line is: we're not gonna be able to make that date."
He provided a bit of information about what trouble the coronavirus provided for Intellivision in particular. With having to pass over 50 compliance tests that were impacted, meeting with people such as suppliers, distributors, and more. During the presentation, Tallarico said, "The reality is that every single aspect of this process has been affected."
He elaborated further that they struggled quite hard to make the release, but that to do it would have required making unacceptable compromises on quality.
What is the new Intellivision Amico Release Date?
The new Intellivision Amico release date is set for April 15th, 2021, giving the company time to furnish supply, and get through various tests. For founder's edition purchasers, Intellivision is going to attempt to have those ready to arrive in people's hands by April 3, 2021, or as Tommy put it a 4/3/21 launch.
Tommy Tallarico stated that the date was subject to change due to the pandemic, but that if everything went perfectly they might even beat the date.
