Earlier this year we saw Has-Been Heroes, a roguelite that had a bunch of old retired heroes get the party back together for one more quest. The game was fun, featuring fast-paced and smart combat for you partake in while making your runs. It seems Frozenbyte is interested in supporting the game further, as a large expansion for it has been both announced and released.

The biggest draw to the expansion comes in the form of Epic Quest mode. Available once you finish the game, this new mode ramps up the difficulty. Of course, that means harder and more enemies, but it also means that heroes won't have any of their starting spells, meaning you need to acquire new spells rather than being able to rely on those. The good news is that this mode will give you a chance to earn the three new characters in the game. The heroes from Trine have all been added, with Amadeus, Pontius, and Zoya all now able to join the party.

The other biggest addition is the Challenge Mode. This mode allows you to partake in a single difficult fight using a pre-set team, spell, and item loadout. They're supposed to be tough fights, but if you win them you can unlock "young heroes". These young heroes are skins for eight of the older heroes, allowing you to see what they looked like when they were back in their prime.

There's quite a bit of other new content, including a new sky realm for the player to explore, giving them new enemies and bosses to fight. There's also over 150 new items and over 120 new spells added to the game, giving you a ton of new variety to conquer enemies with. A new Seed Mode allows you to generate a level with a seed, letting you compete against friends and other players to try and get as far as possible. The best part? All of these updates are available right now on PC and consoles. More importantly, they're all free.

Has-Been Heroes was developed by Frozenbyte, published by GameTrust, and launched on March 28th, 2017. The game is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can read our review of the game here.
