Hand of Fate 2, the sequel to Defiant Development's hit title Hand of Fate, is scheduled to debut on Windows, Mac, and Linux in the first quarter of 2017.

Hand of Fate 2 will be much like the original requiring players to overcome trials that come in the form of collectible cards handed out by a Dealer, while a new map based meta game has been added that allows players to discover and unlock new challenges. This time the tables have turned as the Dealer, who was the antagonist in Hand of Fate, has returned after his defeat and must help players overthrow the previous games protagonist who has now become a tyrant that has outlawed all magic in order to maintain his hundred year rule.

Hand of Fate 2 will also see improved features such as two-handed and duel-wielding weapons, plus the addition of companion support. Players who are tested by the game's third person combat may choose to go it alone or summon aid from a variety of companions. In addition to supporting you in combat, companions will provide exclusive RPG options and have their own individual story lines, such as Malaclypes, who is a mage living as a bard in disguise in order to escape the empire's ban on magic.

Winning will also be more of a challenge in the Action RPG/Card Game hybrid as victory will no longer be tied to just finishing a card deck. Players will have to complete feats like saving up an appropriate amount of gold or surviving ten floors in a dungeon. For individual combat encounters, victory conditions can now have different objectives other then defeat all foes such as defending a goblin from endless waves of soldiers for sixty seconds. All of this should make for a more varied and entertaining experience.

TechRaptor reviewed Hand of Fate when it launched last year and here's what we said then:

With an incredible card-based dungeon delving system, RPG elements displayed through your deck, and an experience that gets significantly more challenging each time you play – Hand of Fate is game that is well worth your time.

It's should come as little surprise that a sequel is in development given that Defiant Development's original title has been downloaded more than 1.9 million times between purchasers and Kickstarter backers.
