Sunburn Games has released their historically accurate Viking RPG The Great Whale Road in early access on Steam. If you’ve ever wondered what it would have been like to be a Viking in the 7th century, now is your chance. From sailing the North Sea to establishing settlements, this game will allow players to experience Viking life from the perspective of the Danes.

Split into two seasons, players will focus on the different challenges of the ancient seafaring people. In the warm season, players will go sailing, establish trade and explore the world. In the cold seasons, it’s time to establish a settlement, protect it from invaders and survive the elements.

The team at Sunburned Games put a lot of work into making The Great Whale Road historically accurate and although the game isn’t completely finished yet they need player feedback and support. It will be in early access for 5-6 months and will continue receiving updates throughout the process. After release from early access, the game will be getting the second part of the Danish story, more playable storylines from other cultures as well as content updates and added features to improve and flesh out the game.

“We have been working on The Great Whale Road for over a year now, and we don’t want to complete the game without players’ feedback. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we have the core mechanics in place and a team of artists and developers on board who are rowing hard towards the ambitious goals we have for The Great Whale Road.” Joachim Sammer, Co-Founder & Writer at Sunburned Games.

The game is a story-driven RPG with a lot of strategic decisions to make. Combat is turn based with cards. Following the history of the Danes from Ulfarrsted players will get to explore the North Sea regions from the lands of the Old Danes to the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Northumbria and the Picts.

The Great Whale Road  is currently in early access on Steam for Windows PC costing $14.99. For more information about the game visit the Steam page or the official website.
