An update for Game Dev Tycoon by Greenheart Games is on its way and should be live on PC sometime in Q1 2018 according to a news post on the game's Steam Community page. A beta has been pushed to Steam with some of the new features that will make it into the game proper.

The first (and perhaps most notable) change is the addition of the super-difficult "Pirate" game mode that includes piracy, DRM, and company ownership game mechanics. (Greenheart Games achieved some notoriety for the inclusion of anti-piracy code which caused pirated copies of the game to result in failure due to your virtual video games being pirated.) The game was brought a bit closer to the modern era with an updated image for personal computers and the new "Ninvento Swap" console, augmenting the sea of slightly-off brand gaming machines in the game. The last big new addition is the implementation of the Greensocks GSAP animation library for modders, something that ought to help expand the game's existing content a bit and give modders a few more tools to work with in the future.

If you'd like to give the beta a whirl, you have to right click on the game in your Steam library, select "Properties", go to the "Betas" tab, and opt-in to the beta. The game will be updated to the beta version and you can then try out some of the new features that have been implemented.

The updated version of Game Dev Tycoon was first announced back in October of this year alongside the news that the game was being ported to Android and iOS. The Android version is expected to release sometime in January 2018 with the update for the PC version of the game to follow a few weeks later. In the meantime, you can pick up the game on iOS for $4.99 or your regional equivalent and on PC for the same price (a 50% discount) during the Steam Winter Sale 2017.
