Final Fantasy XI

Square Enix has just released part one of a new story series that is releasing for Final Fantasy XI Online, The Voracious Resurgence. The update released today is the first of a story series, and it will beckon "adventurers to explore mysteries of Vana’diel’s past that have long been shielded from view—the catalyst of which is a series of small incidents currently occurring throughout the land." Seems like it's pretty heavy stuff, especially for a game that's nearly 20 years old.

The latest update to the first Final Fantasy MMO will also include a Return Home to Vana’diel Campaign where anyone who has subscribed to Final Fantasy XI can come back and play it from August 7 to 17, so a full ten days gameplay if you've been hankering to come back.

Also included is are Ambuscade Battle Updates, which means that players can fight against Mamool Ja and Rafflesia in Ambuscade battles. If you do so, you can obtain hallmarks and badges of gallantry and exchange them for rewards. Other than that, there are two limited-time events, the Green Festival (which runs from August 7 to August 18), and the Sunbreeze Festival (which runs from August 14 to August 31). The first event brings an open-air cafe to Lower Jeuno for players to potentially obtain a new morbol subligar, while the second event has players watching festivals and potentially involving themselves in other activities.
