Dawngate, known for being the first attempt by EA to enter the MOBA market, has been cancelled after six months of being in open beta. The title was under development by Waystone Games and according to an update by EA the team will soon be disbanded.
While the game has been presented well since the reveal in 2013, as there have been more than one ad campaigns promoting the open beta. However the project has been officially, albeit quietly, cancelled. The Dawngate website is currently down and the official news release is apparently unavailable to view by the public. Many websites have sourced a reddit post instead that talks about the consequences of the production shutdown.
"As a part of the process of closing down Dawngate, we’ll continue to operate the game for the next 90 days. All players will be entitled to a full refund of any money spent during the beta. If you have any questions, you can reach us at help.ea.com."The MOBA market has expanded dramatically in recent months and with EA, a major publisher if there ever was one, cancelling the only known game to be in production for that genre it may be a sign of the level of competition or possibly the chance of success in this specific market.
