Commandos: Origins Takes The Strategy Series Back To Its Roots In 2024

Kalypso and developer Claymore Game Studios have announced Commandos: Origins, the first new Commandos game in many years.

The game will, as you've probably guessed, examine the origins of the legendary World War II force from the Commandos series, telling you the story of how Jack O'Hara and his fellow soldiers formed this unstoppable team.

You'll be able to play as soldiers of six different classes, each of which brings a different specialty to the battlefield, and you'll need them all if you want to succeed in your mission.

Like previous games (although not Commandos: Strike Force, notably), Commandos: Origins will be a real-time tactics game, in a similar vein to recent genre excursions like Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew and Desperados III.

Commandos: Origins will let you complete its missions in various different ways, with multiple routes to your goal presenting themselves depending on how you play.

The game will offer more than ten missions, spanning locations like the Arctic, the African desert, and the Eastern Front.

You'll also be able to take advantage of two-player co-op in either online or local play, so if you've got a friend who's been hankering for a new Commandos game as much as you, your day has come.

Prior to this, the Commandos series' last entries were remasters of Commandos 2: Men of Courage and Commandos 3: Destination Berlin, so this'll be the first new Commandos game since 2006's first-person shooter Commandos: Strike Force.

Development is being handled by Claymore Game Studios, and it'll be the German outfit's first title, so hopefully this new Commandos game will be able to live up to the legacy of the previous titles.

Commandos: Origins is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S in 2024. It'll also be available on Game Pass on day one.
