We have learned that the Colossal Cave Adventure Remake Switch Edition will be heading our way with the game's official release. Roberta and Ken Williams state that this remake will be as close to the original as possible, and they will go far to make that happen.
We learned that the Colossal Cave Adventure Remake was in development back in March of 2022, though at the time, it was only set to release for Meta Quest 2 and PC. We now know that the port for Nintendo Switch is underway as well, and the developers tell IGN in an exclusive interview that they intend to keep the original source code and narration. Ken Williams, CEO, and Founder of Cygnus Entertainment stated,
"Colossal Cave - Reimagined by Roberta Williams will soon be accessible to gamers worldwide on an additional platform. We hope to bring back the spirit of traditional adventure games for devoted fans who grew up with the original game and the new generation of explorers alike. We believe bringing Colossal Cave Reimagined by Roberta Williams to the Nintendo Switch will help us do that."
In a brief synopsis of the game, we learn that players will be able to immerse themselves within a world that has never before been tainted by human hands. You will venture through intricate labyrinths deep underground with only a lantern and oil for the said lantern that will run out eventually. As you explore the caverns below, you will uncover secrets and mysteries of magic that the world has never seen.
You aren't alone in the depths, as a monstrous dragon sleeps within the caves. Be sure to tread lightly and calculate every move carefully, or you will wake the beast. You will also come across some friendly faces, and some not-so-friendly faces, as the caverns are filled to the brim with Dwarves, Trolls, and even Pirates. The game also showcases puzzles that can only be solved by pure wit and intelligence, easter eggs to be discovered, and 15 hidden treasures that you can bring back to the mortal realm.
As of right now, the Colossal Cave Adventure remake doesn't have a set release date, but we do know that it will be available on Nintendo Switch for $39.99.
