The name Chris Metzen should be familiar to most Warcraft and World of Warcraft veterans, and today the Blizzard veteran is taking on a new role that is also old at the same time.
According to an announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Metzen has taken on the role of Executive Creative Director of the whole Warcraft universe and will start supporting the leadership of the WoW team in creating the next generation of adventures in the game.
More information on what's coming will be shared at BlizzCon, which will happen on November 3 and November 4 in Anaheim, California.

We are exciteci to share that Chris Metzen has taken on a full-time role as Executive Creative Director of the Warcraft universe. Right now. his main focus is supporting our World of Warcraft leadership in crafting the next generation of adventures.
Chris was instrumental in developing the foundations of the Warcraft universe. a. we are thrilled for him to re-join our teams in shaping what's to come.
At BlizzCon he and the team will be sharing what we've been working on. We hope to see you there!

Metzen joined Blizzard in 1993 when it was still named Chaos Studios and quickly climbed the ranks throughout the Warcraft series until becoming creative director on Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.
After quitting the company in 2016, he returned in 2022 as creative advisor, and the rest is history.
It'll certainly be interesting to see if Metzen's touch will revitalize the storied franchise. We'll have to wait and see,
