While Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard appears to be almost in the bag, there's at least one major publisher that isn't interested in going the same route, Capcom.
During a video interview with Bloomberg recorded at Tokyo Game Show last week, Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto was asked directly if he would entertain an acquisition proposal by Microsoft.
His answer was polite but pretty clear-cut:
I would gracefully decline the offer because I believe it would be better if we were equal partners.
Tsujimoto-san also mentioned that Capcom isn't interested in acquiring other studios, as they prefer organic growth, training and developing human resources in-house in order to grow.
While he concedes that Capcom could utilize external partners, they have no interested in acquiring any company.
Tsujimoto-san then made an interesting point mentioning that he believes that digital entertainment is the industry that will help Japan grow in the future.
Japan can respond to global demand by utilizing its excellent human resources. Japanese games are well-received globally and Tsujimoto-san believes that in order for Japan to continue to grow, the gaming industry will have to lead the way.
