Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Has Sold 2 Million Copies

Today ArtPlay released a new video providing details and footage about upcoming content for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Nightalongside sales news.

We learn directly from producer Koji Igarashi and director Shutaro Iida that the game's sales have topped 2 million copies as of August 2023  (the small print mistakenly says 2022, but that's obviously a typo), which is definitely flattering for a niche indie title.

We also get to take a look at the upcoming online modes (Chaos and Vs) which are currently in development at Wayforward.

More footage shows three paid DLC costumes, including one with a kimono, one inspired by magical girls, and one with a demonic vibe.

Speaking of DLC, we also get to see another mode in the works, Classic Mode 2, titled Dominique's Curse

Apparently, more details about the online modes will be shared on September 14.

In the meantime, you can watch the video and hear from the developers below.

If you're unfamiliar with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, it was founded with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 that raised a whopping $5.5 million, being one of the highest-funded gaming Kickstarters of all time.

It marked the return of Koji Igarashi of Castlevania fame and was finally released in 2019. It's currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch, iOS, and Android.

if you'd like to learn more, you can read our review, in which our Joseph Allen described it as "a fluid, well-crafted labor of love with tons of content and a satisfying core gameplay loop."
