Baldur's Gate 3 update 3 will be arriving in the near future, but there's some bad news — you won't be able to enjoy the new content with your current save.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been happily chugging along in Steam Early Access as the developers travel along the road to full release. Unfortunately, Early Access sometimes means that bugs or other issues will arise and the developers have announced just that: the next big patch for Baldur's Gate 3 is going to be incompatible with your current save.

How to Keep Playing Your Save with Baldur's Gate 3 Update 3

The announcement of Baldur's Gate 3 Update 3 brings good news and bad news. The bad news is that you can't continue your current save on the new patch. The good news, however, is that you can keep on playing the older version of the game on Steam.

Here's how to keep playing your old Baldur's Gate 3 save when Update 3 launches:

  1. Right-click on Baldur's Gate 3 in your Steam Library.
  2. Select "Properties."
  3. Go to the Betas Tab.
  4. Select "patch 2" in the drop-down list.
  5. Close the Properties menu.

Once that's done, the game should revert to Update 2 and allow you to continue with your save.

Naturally, there are some caveats as noted in the Steam Community news post. The only way you're going to be able to enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 Update 3 is with an entirely new save; there simply won't be a way to move your save file over (unless someone develops a community tool, that is).

There's also some bad news for Stadia players — allowing players to enjoy an older patch isn't quite possible on Stadia just yet, so they're going to have to either hold off on updating or lose their save. If you're currently enjoying the game on Stadia, it may be best to wait until the next patch drops or try to finish the game before it does.

More details will arrive with the Baldur's Gate 3 Update 3 notes when they arrive in the near future. For now, you can buy Baldur's Gate 3 via its official website starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
