Earlier today, a document published by the Tourism Department of the City of Los Angeles sparked rumors about the alleged cancellation of E3 2024 and 2025. The ESA just denied said rumors.

The document, which was immediately picked up by various media outlets, showcased an estimate of citywide convention sales, mentioning the inclusion of "E3 cancellations for 2024 & 2025."

TechRaptor reached out to the ESA (which stands for Entertainment Software Association and is the organization that traditionally hosts E3), which was quick to dismiss the rumor, mentioning that it is currently in talks about the 2024 edition of the event and beyond and no final decision has been made, for now.

ESA is currently having conversations about E3 2024 (and beyond), and no final decisions about the event have been made at this time.

Apparently, reports of the demise of the upcoming editions of the prestigious industry trade show have been grossly exaggerated, and we'll have to wait and see what the ESA decides as it continues to weigh its options. It's fairly safe to assume that it's going to take a while before we hear about E3 2024, considering that it's June 2023.

The 2023 edition of E3 was supposed to happen this month, organized by ReedPop, but ended up being canceled citing difficulties for developers in having playable demos ready for the show and resourcing challenges that they couldn't overcome.

While E3 has traditionally been a trade show dedicated to media and industry professionals, since the 2017 edition, it has started gradually opening its doors to the public in increasing numbers. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected the event, which was canceled in 2020 after 24 years of activity since its debut in 1995. The 2021 edition was hosted exclusively online, while the 2022 edition was canceled again.
