The internet is not short of game dev projects coming to KickStarter and Steam Greenlight, but there was something about Tower 57 which grabbed TechRaptor’s attention. And we’re not the only ones.

Tower 57 is the latest project by European game devs Thomas and Marco and is an old school twin stick shooter in a cyber punk setting. Tower 57 puts an emphasis on local co-op which I must say is pretty refreshing when everything outside of Nintendo these days is online. Tower 57 also includes permanently destructible environments so the player can change the environment to best help them succeed.

The concept certainly looks promising but that isn’t what has grabbed the interest of the gaming community. Tower 57 boasts an absolutely gorgeous 16 bit pixel art style graphics which were inspired by cyberpunk and the 1920s. It is of an extremely high quality compared to a lot of projects out there at the moment who see pixel art as an easy way out of drawing properly. Even Notch, creator of Minecraft is a fan.

The KickStarter is currently for PC versions of the game and has at time of writing made €18,000 of its €45,000 goal with 21 days left to go. There are a lot of other great stuff up for grabs though if they beat their target with promises of modding tools and console ports becoming available.

The KickStarter rewards are much of the usual stuff with a copy of the game coming in at the €12 tier and higher tiers promising the usual art books and soundtracks as well as backer only costumes.

Tower 57 currently needs your support on KickStarter and Steam Greenlight and is expected for release March 2016. You can find out more about the project there or you are always free to bother the devs Marco and Thomas on Twitter.

What do you think of Tower 57?
