A new entry in the fan-favorite Senran Kagura franchise has been announced, courtesy of Weekly Famitsu. Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is positioned as a bit of a departure from the series’ roots, playing as a third-person shooter, rather than the Warriors/Musou-esque gameplay of its predecessors. Each character is equipped with a water gun and destructible clothing, which they use in 5 vs. 5 team battles.
Peach Beach Splash is the rather imaginative name of a historic Shinobi water gun tournament. Through unknown circumstances, the familiar cast of characters find themselves involved in the festivities, disregarding their previous alliances and engaging in open water gun warfare. Any and all special abilities are disabled, placing the focus firmly on the water gun combat. A wide range of guns are available and customisable with collectible cards, with the arsenal ranging from dual pistols to gatling guns.
In addition to the single-player story mode, team-based online multiplayer will also be available. The story is considered part of the main storyline, with plans to expand into a new action game under consideration. Over thirty characters from the franchise’s history will be playable, including characters from New Wave G Burst, the Japan-exclusive mobile game. The expanded roster is accompanied by a wealth of new costumes to unlock and equip. Said costumes can be damaged and destroyed in combat, as per the series tradition, but there are plans to modify and expand this system.
VR support is also under consideration, with a compatibility update aimed for release in the post-launch period. A range of additional DLC is also under development, ranging from story content, to additional characters and costumes. For fans, a special, limited-edition deluxe package will be available. The “Super Limited Nyuu Nyuu 5th Anniversary DX Pack” includes the standard art book and soundtrack, as well as a Blu-ray compilation of series’ opening animations, and a life-sized mouse pad modelled after Yumi.
Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is slated for launch in Japan on March 16, as a PlayStation 4 exclusive. No announcement on a western release has been made yet.
