The list of PlayStation Now compatible devices will shrink to just two this August, Sony announced in a PlayStation Blog post yesterday.

The service will soon be available on just your PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. PlayStation Now will be dropped from the following devices starting Aug. 15, 2017:

  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV
  • All 2013, 2014, 2015 Sony Bravia TV models
  • All Sony Blu-ray player models
  • All Samsung TV models
Sony added that 2016 models of Sony Bravia TVs will be discontinued on April 1, 2017.

Brian Dunn, the senior marketing manager for PlayStation Now, wrote the following in the blog post:

After thoughtful consideration, we decided to shift our focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to further develop and improve the user experience on these two devices. This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further. If you use any of the above devices, we want to give our heartfelt thanks for your support, and we hope you’ll continue with us.
If you do use one of the devices listed above for PlayStation Now and no longer wish to continue your subscription, remember to turn off auto-renewal in your account settings. Paying for things you can't even use sucks, so save yourself the headache now.

Welp, PlayStation can never use this graphic again.

Again, subscriptions will no longer be usable on 2016 Sony Bravia TVs by April 1, 2017, and Aug. 15 for all other devices except PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

PlayStation Now is a subscription service that allows you to stream older PlayStation 3 games on other devices.

Quick Thoughts

To be completely honest, I didn't even know that PlayStation Now was available on half the devices mentioned above. I doubt that there are very many people who rely on those devices for PlayStation Now, but still, I'm sure they feel like Sony just yanked the rug out from under them. Again, if you are one of those people who pay for a subscription but don't use PlayStation Now on a PlayStation 4 or Windows PC, make sure you change your auto-renewal settings.
