EA have announced the shutting down of developer Mythic Entertainment. Most recently the studio is known for developing Warhammer Online and the reboot of the classic PC game Dungeon Keeper. Relaunching it on mobile devices.
The studio was founded in 1995. They were originally known for their MMO, Dark Age of Camelot. On June 20, 2006 they were bought by EA. The studio did some work on Ultima Online before they went on to launch Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in 2008. The game lasted about five years before being shut down at the end of 2013.
Their most recent release was the reboot of Dungeon Keeper. Unfortunately the game was received very poorly and would be the last game the studio ever made.
EA have said they are shutting the studio down to focus on mobile development with their other studios. After being purchased by EA is seems Mythic never really had a chance to make a significant impact on the gaming landscape. With a failed MMO and a poorly received mobile game among their most notable credits of the last few years.
EA have made clear they are working to help the impacted ex-employees in finding new opportunities with employment.
