Wizkids has announced the upcoming release of Magic: The Gathering: Ravnica Inquisition, a brand-new board game set in the Magic: The Gathering universe. Unlike the collectible card game, Ravnica Inquisition is instead a social deduction game similar to stuff like The Resistance and Secret Hitler.
In Ravnica Inquisition, 5-10 players will either be playing as Agents of Bolas or Gatewatch Loyalists. The Agents of Bolas are trying to ascend the elder dragon Bolas to power and the Gatewatch Loyalists are trying to prevent that from happening. Loyalty cards are issued at the beginning of the game and the Agents of Bolas will secretly acknowledge one another before things get started properly.
Each round, players will choose a leader based on a color indicated on that round’s Leader card. The leader then must draw a targeting card which will perform an ability aimed at one of the other players based on their color. Gameplay will carry on until the final round when players decide who should be killed based on the gameplay seen so far. If at least two of the Agents of Bolas are killed, the Gatewatch Loyalists win. If one or fewer of the Agents of Bolas are killed, then the Agents of Bolas win.
Ravnica is one of the many planes in the Magic: The Gathering universe, and is one of the most popular planes that Wizards has created. This realm is essentially one massive city that is aesthetically similar to the grand halls and cathedrals of Eastern Europe. It has a complex series of religions and guilds intermixed throughout the populous. Ravnica features two moons and subterranean ocean.
If you’re a diehard fan of Magic: The Gathering, you’ll probably find something to love in this new game. You’ll be able to get Magic: The Gathering: Ravnica Inquisition sometime later this year.
