It’s about time for another GOG sale. This time, the good GOG folks are celebrating Halloween, and invite you to do the same by offering “cute and spooky offers” on “horror, odd, and delightful games”. The GOG Trick or Treat Sale runs until November 5th and sees over 170 games discounted.

To celebrate the traditional Halloween mixture of spooky family-friendly fun, it’s not just horror games up for grabs. GOG has loosely sorted games in their Halloween sale into four (very rough) categories, each of which is themed around a different aspect of Halloween. These aren’t bundles; rather, they’re fun ways to group up the games on sale and give them a theme.

First up, the “charming B movie night” group serves up classic FMV horror games like Phantasmagoria and its sequel (both up for grabs at 35% off), Bad Mojo Redux (75% off) and Shivers (20% off).

The second group of the Trick or Treat sale focuses on “true horror”, and includes games with more of a straight-faced emphasis on horror. Fright aficionados can get their hands on games like first-person adventure The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, which can be had for 85% off its standard retail price. If that doesn’t float your boat, maybe you’d prefer roguelike narrative RPG Sunless Sea, up for grabs at 66% off. Looking for something more traditional? Psychological horror titles Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs are both 80% off their usual price.

Thirdly, there’s the “good old days” category, which includes mostly classic titles with a horror bent. Leading the charge is Troika’s cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, which can be snapped up for 75% off its usual price. If you’re hankering for something a bit more fast-paced, check out People Can Fly’s wonderful Painkiller, which has also had 75% slashed off its standard price.

Finally, there’s the “weird and unusual” games, slightly more off-the-beaten-path titles that owe a debt to horror or are just plain crazy. Tim Schafer’s classic adventure Psychonauts can be had for 75% off, while underrated horror Pathologic Classic HD has had a massive 90% discount slapped on it.

If none of these Trick or Treat titles appeal to your particular tastes, then there are plenty of non-grouped games up for grabs. Check out roguish 19th-century explore-’em-up Renowned Explorers, available for 50% off with both of its expansions, for a particularly unique take on the legend of Dracula, among other exploratory delights. Once you’re done there, poke around creepy catacombs and deadly dungeons in Hero-U: Rogue to Redemption (35% off), created by the folks behind Quest for Glory and Shannara.

These deals can all be had as part of the GOG Trick or Treat Sale until 10 pm UTC November 5th, when they’ll vanish into the night like ghosts. Make sure you snap up whatever spooky offering you’re after before then.

Dark Souls changed my life, and I'm here to spread the good news. I like pretty much all sorts of games, but I judge everything by its proximity to our Lord and saviour, Dark Souls.
