Today, Square Enix announced that the first three Dragon Quest games (originally known as Dragon Warrior in the west) would be coming to the Nintendo Switch on September 27 for $4.99, $6.49, and $12.49 respectively for digital download in Nintendo's eShop.

Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest 2: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, and Dragon Quest 3: The Seeds of Salvation are all classic titles of the RPG genre. As such, all three re-released titles will keep their controls and mimic the gameplay in order for players to rock it out like it's the mid-to-late-80's all over again.

The first title in the Erdrick trilogy released in 1986, whereupon it sold millions of copies and accumulated millions of fans worldwide. Players begin their journey as "Hero" who is a descendant of the hero Erdrick. The player will travel through the realm of Alefgard and save the world, as expected for any good RPG title. For Dragon Quest II, players are the prince of Midenhall, where they will journey to find two descendants of Edrick in order to defeat Hargon, who presumably went to the dark side over how lame his name is. In Dragon Quest III, a young hero has been tasked with slaying the cooler-sounding Baramos, the so-called master of darkness. Players will journey through Aliahan, which most definitely not is the name of a creative-sounding sneeze.

What most definitely is not sneeze-worthy is a fan's reaction to the release of Dragon Quest 1-3. Instead of quoting from it liberally, here is the tweet in full written by game designer Paul Hubans:

So it looks like players are going to receive more of the same from Square Enix, just like how the Final Fantasy mobile ports were 'touched up' and brought over to everywhere that has a screen. However, it's important to note that they are still the same games, but they won't look as good as they could have, because Square is gonna Enix.

Dragon Quest, DRAGON QUEST II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line, and DRAGON QUEST III: The Seeds of Salvation, will release on the Nintendo Switch on September 27 for $4.99, $6.49, and $12.49 respectively.

What do you think of this news? Are you angry that Square Enix has messed around with the graphics of another classic RPG series? Are you going to buy them anyway? Let us know in the comments!
