The 10th season of the Intel Extreme Masters, a global eSports tournament held in partnership with the Electronic Sports League (ESL), will be starting up next week. This 10th season also marks the return of Counter-Strike, which has been missing since season six in 2012. This season will feature League of Legends, Starcraft II, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The 10th season of the Intel Extreme Masters begins July 16th in China. Here's the full schedule:

  • IEM Shenzhen, China (July 16-20) at the Shenzhen Cartoon and Animation Festival
  • IEM Cologne, Germany (August 5-9) at gamescom
  • IEM San Jose, USA (November 21-22) at the SAP Center
  • IEM Cologne, Germany (December 2015) at the ESL Arena
  • IEM Asia stop, event details to be announced at a later date (sometime in 2016)
  • IEM Katowice World Championship in Poland (March 2016) at Spodek
Considering the behemoth that is now Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in eSports, there is no question that the organizers of the Intel Extreme Masters should be excited — which is exactly what Michal Blicharz, Managing Director of Pro Gaming at ESL, said:
The success and the legacy of the Intel Extreme Masters was partly built on CounterStrike and it’s a great feeling to go into the tenth season of the circuit with CS:GO back in it. Adding a third game makes this IEM season the largest in years!
You can check out this extensive infographic on the event and its history, including season-by-season recaps and a Hall of Fame. It's a great place to start if you're unfamiliar with the event.

Is the inclusion of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive a reason for you to check out the Intel Extreme Masters this year? Are you a veteran of the event glad to see its return? Are there any other games you would like to see connected to the event in the future?
