During the 2019 Awesome Games Done Quick event, Games Done Quick raised a whopping $2.39 million for charity. This amount tops all previous AGDQs and will be used to benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The annual event ran from Sunday, January 6th through Saturday, January 12th and featured speedruns for over a hundred titles, including Hollow Knight, Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker, Halo: Reach, a whole bunch of Castlevania games, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mohawk & Headphone Jack—whatever the heck that is. As you can probably tell from the list, this year’s speedruns included a wide variety of old, new, classic, and forgotten titles. You can view the entire index of speedruns on GDQ’s website.
The total amount earned as of the time of writing is $2,397,312.51, with a high donation of over $217,000. Donors who contributed during the event were able to win various prizes, including Hollow Knight plushies, Kratos figures, a replica of Doom Guy’s helmet, and the Master Sword. Donations are still open through GDQ’s website.
Awesome Games Done Quick is one of two annual charity events run by Games Done Quick. Their next event, Summer Games Done Quick 2019, will take place in Bloomington, Minnesota from June 23rd to June 30th. The full schedule for the event, including the list of prizes and speedrunners, will be released closer to the event. In addition to AGDQ and SGDQ, Games Done Quick often hosts an additional charity event sometime during the year to benefit a special cause, such when they did Harvey Relief Done Quick and Japan Relief Done Quick.
100% of donations from ADGQ 2019 went to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, a US-based nonprofit dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. It has received 4/4 stars and an A- rating from Charity Navigator and Charity Watch, respectively. You can learn more about the charity, their mission, and how to contribute on the Prevent Cancer Foundation’s website.
