Today Nihon Falcom released another batch of screenshots, art, and details about its upcoming JRPG Ys X: Nordics, the next installment of the popular Ys series.
We start by taking a look at four characters. Fans of the series will certainly be familiar with Dogi, a good-natured former thief that Adol has known for a while. He specializes in hand-to-hand combat and his fists are powerful enough to crush rock walls. He has now stopped working as a thief and acts together with Adol, with whom he gets along very well. He's 23 at the time of this story.
Glennn Berge, who is 18 years old, is a member of the Neighborhood Watch in the town of Karnak. He's always positive and passionate even if at times he gets ahead of himself. Yet, his casual words often hit the heart of the issue, and he's admired by boys and girls around his age. He's also the eldest son of the major, but he doesn't like to hear people talking about it.
Rosalind Rasveli, who is 16 years old, works at the local tavern, the Rasveli Inn. She's nicknamed "Rosa" and she's always concerned about Adol, who is out adventuring despite being the same age as her. Not only is she considerate of those surrounding her, but she also has a good disposition, which causes many to say that she's more responsible than her parents. She is close with Glen, Cruz, and the other boys in their age range.
Cruz Karpent is also 16 and he's the heir of the Karpent Trading Company, which operates in Karnak. While he grew up with Rosalind and Glenn, he had to grow up quickly as of late due to how busy his family's business is. He loves to read and is very knowledgeable about many topics. While he looks mature, he can be surprisingly reckless. When he was a child, he tried to stow away on a merchant ship of the Romun Empire.
We also learn that as the game progresses, we'll unlock Mana Actions, further strengthening them by finding slates scattered in various areas of the game's world.
Mana String works pretty much like a grappling hook, facilitating traversal and pulling movable items like boxes or levers. The more it's leveled up, the stronger the pull. Mana Ride is basically the ability to surf on the wind. You can increase its performance by leveling it up, making big jumps by entering Wind Pools, and more. Mana Burst lets you damage enemies at a distance with fire (if you're playing as Adol) or ice (if you're playing as Karja). Not only it's useful as a weapon, but also to help with traversal, for instance, to burn vines with fire or create icy steps you can jump on.

Ys X: Nordics is releasing in Japan in 2023 for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. If you're interested in the series, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox will soon release on PS5.
