Ys IX: Monstrum Nox for PS5

Today NIS America announced the release dates of the PS5 version of Nihon Falcom's action-JRPG Ys IX: Monstrum Nox.

The game is going to launch on Sony's new console in a staggered fashion starting with North America on May 9, followed by Europe on May 12. Gamers in Oceania will have to wait longer, until May 19.

The PS5 port adds to the previously available platforms, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC

The game continues the story of  Adol “the Red” Christin as he has to tackle a new adventure in the city of Balduq, part of the Romun Empire. Our hero gets arrested and thrown in jail, only to have a woman named Aprilis turn him into a Monstrum, a being with supernatural powers and the ability to exorcise monsters.

Alongside the announcement, we also get a trailer providing an overview of the characters. You can watch it below.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox was originally released in Japan in 2019, while western fans had to wait until 2021 for the first release. it's the latest game of Nihon Falcom's beloved Ys series, which debuted all the way in 1987 for PC-8801.

At the moment, Nihon Falcom is already worked on the sequel, Ys X: Nordics, which is releasing in Japan for PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch in 2023. It features a brand new voyage for Adol to Oberia Bay in the Northern Sea and a new female companion, alongside naval combat and a few interesting innovations for the gameplay and battle system. At the moment, we have no idea when it'll come west. Nihon Falcom games usually take ages to localize.
